The month of October brings many important celebrations. The triple anniversaries – 22 years of the Temple of Good Will in Brasilia (on the 21st), 66 years of the United Nations (on the 24th) and 25 years of the Legion of Good Will in the USA (on the 30th) – were commemorated with an important Seminar on Education with Spirituality held in New York.

This seminar was presented by the Legion of Good Will and the Aquarian Age Community, co-chairs of the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness, a Working Group of the Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns – NY (CSVGC). It was one of several activities planned for the Week of Spirituality (October 20-28, 2011) – in observance of UN Day.
The panel occurred on October 27th, from 2:00pm to 4:15pm, at the International Social Justice Commission (Salvation Army), with the theme on "Developing Global Citizens for a Sustainable Society: Why Is the Spiritual Dimension an Essential Component of Education for the 21st Century?” During its opening remarks, the Legion of Good Will’s representative Danilo Parmegiani highlighted the pioneering educational actions carried out by the organization around the globe. Under the topic "Education with Ecumenical Spirituality: A View Beyond the Intellect", he disclosed the positive results achieved with the Pedagogy of Affection and the Ecumenical Citizen Pedagogy, both created by educator Paiva Netto. The co-host of the event, Ida Urso, who is also the President of Aquarian Age Community, addressed the topic on “Spirituality and Worldmindedness – A Needed Worldview at the United Nations."
Among the guest speakers were H.E. Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations; Mr. William Yotive, Supervisor of the UN/CyberSchoolBus, and Mr. John Wulsin, Teacher at the Green Meadow Waldorf School, in New York.

The objective of this initiative is to contribute towards an open and practical debate on the role of Spirituality for the betterment of the World, a position long defended by the Legion of Good Will since its origins in the 1940s in Brazil. This annual activity has increasingly raised awareness of world leaders and international community.
