São Paulo/SP, Brazil - From New York City, the representative of the Legion of Good Will at the United Nations, Danilo Parmegiani, informed that on June 4, 2008, the quadrennial report of the Organization was analyzed and approved with distinction by the governmental delegations of the UN member countries. As a result, the LGW had its general consultative status renewed with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The Legion of Good Will was the first Brazilian Organization to obtain this recognition.

The LGW was re-elected vice-president of the NGO Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns at the UN.

The Legion of Good Will was re-elected vice-president of the NGO Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns at the United Nations for another two years. The election occurred during the committee’s meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on May 29, when the LGW gave a speech to the authorities present. It was the first time in the committee that a member of the executive group gave a lecture.

The participation of the LGW lasted one hour and it discussed about many topics of the magazine Globalization of Fraternal Love (available in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Esperanto). Counselor Malik Sardar Khan, from the Islamic World Council, pointed out during his speech the message of the Organization. "This message needs to reach the whole world! I do this work of disseminating social themes with this level of spirituality to contacts in several countries. I will repass the LGW’s message”, he affirmed.

Another important manifestation came from Rabbi Roger Ross who said: "The LGW’s message could not be more perfect, because it is said with Love”.

The invitation for the lecture arouse from the results achieved by the 2nd Forum of the Solidary Society Network Innovation Fair promoted by the LGW in March, in several cities of Latin America, with a special highlight to Manaus/AM, Brazil, when the preservation of the Amazon Rainforest was discussed. The series of meetings was held with the support of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the seal of the United Nations Information Center in Brazil (UNIC-Rio). Since 2004, the Legion of Good Will has annually carried out forums of the Latin American civil society, in partnership with the UN, reaching its fifth edition in 2008.

It is also worth mentioning that the LGW is associated with the Department of Public Information (DPI) since 1994, and it was the first Brazilian organization of the Third Sector to obtain in 1999 general consultative status in the ECOSOC. Since 2006, it is the vice-president of the Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns.
