New York, USA — About 7 thousand items—among which coats, clothing, blankets and toys—are being sent by the Legion of Good Will of the United States to help victims of the heavy rains that hit some regions of São Paulo (Brazil) these past few days. All items were raised through a campaign in which the community of New York and New Jersey took part, and they are being sent to Brazil with the support of Fastway Moving.
The donations will be sent to the Community and Educational Center of the LGW in São Paulo, where thousands of families in a vulnerable situation were registered by social workers. The items shipped from the United States of America will add to the ongoing support that the LGW provides through the S.O.S. Homeless project, that offers emergency assistance and enduring social and educational programs in support to the community. This initiative will be a relief especially for the families who already live in poverty situation and have lost everything they owned because of the recent floods.

Here in Newark, the gesture of solidarity was not only from those who donated, but also from the many volunteers who have worked in the last weeks categorizing, counting and arranging the boxes in the Community Center of the LGW at 20 Calumet Street. Not even the freezing temperatures of the North American winter drove away the voluntary work. It is the spirit of solidarity that has no boundaries to express its power.
