New School Supplies Boosts New School Year for Disadvantaged Children

This week, the Legion of Good Will began the distribution of the first sets of school supplies in New Jersey as part of its Backpacks for a Bright Future campaign. This campaign aims to provide low-income children with the necessary tools for a motivated and successful new school year by eliminating the deprivation young students may face when they do not have the same materials as other classmates.

“The LBV believes that high-quality education is the key to overcome social inequalities and, through this campaign, children at social risk receive a true winning chance to break the cycle of poverty,” highlighted Danilo Parmegiani, representative of the LGW.

The campaign has a profound effect on the children, but also on the parents who are unable to afford these supplies. Mother of three, Janethe Calle relayed to us the struggles she has faced recently due to her husband falling ill, saying that the LGW’s Backpacks for a Bright Future Campaign is a saving grace for her and her family. She thanks all those who have donated and volunteered with the campaign: “you are people with wonderful and kind hearts, who give your all to help those who have less than you.”

The LGW has a few more life-changing deliveries ahead in Newark, NJ. Other beneficiaries include kids from Hawkins St. School, Lafayette St. School, and Wilson Ave. School, as well as, the YMCA Shelter of Newark & Vicinity. On October 2nd, the LGW’s representatives will also give out more backpacks with school supplies for eligible kids at the Kid’s Festival, in the Ironbound community. In the city of Orange, NJ the organization will also visit and distribute backpacks to Lincoln Avenue School and Oakwood Avenue School.

The Legion of Good Will is still mobilizing this campaign throughout the month of September and is accepting in-kind and/or monetary donations. If you want to donate or volunteer in the distribution, reach out to the organization by phone (646) 398-7128 or website at www.legionofgoodwill.org.
